After having "blown up" on Soundcloud with the release of Ocean Eyes in 2015.

The world was curious to see what Billie Eilish would do next. Fast forward to the drop of the EP (Don't Smile at Me) in 2017, 2 years later (March 2019 to be more precise) would be undoubtably her biggest year in music history.

Despite the criticism/accusations of being an industry plant, there was huge expectations for the release. Billie dropped 7 singles before hand. Bad Guy was particularly well received. Going on to Win Record of the year and Song of the year at the 62 Grammys.

The album opens up with bad guy and the beat is instantly grabbing. Even before listening to the whole album. bad guy was the first song I listened to on the radio. The lyrics are darker than one would imagine. It's only after careful listening do you understand the message of the song.

Now: What did I like about the album?

Well firstly, the production work done is impeccable. Finneas (Billie's brother and creative partner) adds the perfect instrumentals to create the atmosphere in every track (side note: all the album was created in a home bedroom studio at Billie and Finneas home in California).

Additionally, the flow within the album is something that should be acknowledged. I particularly enjoyed how in some songs such as the transition between Bury a friend and iomilo is so seamless that you don't realise when the song ends and the next begins.

Another aspect I enjoyed too was the distortion effect used in some of the tracks like xanny and ilomilo.

Lyrically, the album is darker than one might expect. Tracks near the end of the album showcase truly capsulate this. Listen before i go is particularly haunting.

"I wanna see the world when I stop breathing, turnin' blue (blue)
Tell me love is endless, don't be so pretentious
Leave me like you do (like you do)"

My only gripes with the album is out of the 14 tracks only one I was not a fan off. This not saying that the song was bad it was just the case that it wasn't my particularly taste. Overall I am incredible impressed with this body of work (particularly when it was created by a 17 year old) and I'm excited to see what else follows up for Billie.
