Ariana Grande is back with her 6th studio album. Thank u, next (2019) was successful to say the least (being nominated for album of the year and best pop vocal album at the 62nd 2020 Grammys) so a year later Positions has arrived.
14 songs (41.14 long) later I was left slightly confused and conflicted to be honest.
It's not a bad album there are many positive and excellent elements within Positions. Ariana's vocals are always impeccable and the song POV is a stunning song which was surprising and emotional way to end the album. Positions (the self titled lead single) was also a fun and catchy single. However, there are certain elements which feel incomplete or misplaced, like some production and instrumental choices in songs like Love Language and Just Like Magic.
Feature artists/collaborations tend to either work seamlessly or appear to be forced. Within in positions they generally work. Both Motive and Off the table are solid songs. BUT, Safety Net would have worked more without the appearance of Ty Dolla $ign (sorry Ty).
While the album might appeal more Ariana stans', I do think Positions will be the type to grow the more one listens to it.
Overall, I'm not overwhelmed for it but I'm sure it's doing very well commercially, but thank you Ariana for POV (it has officially been added to my Spotify playlist) and I'm curious to see where Ariana goes from here.
