🏆GRAMMY 2021: THE PREDICTIONS🏆

Updated: Nov 19, 2022

The 63rd Annual Grammy Awards after being postponed (original date: Jan 31 2021) will happen this Sunday coming (17th March). There were some snobs (ahem the Weeknd ahem) but the performers have been announced and the big question stands:

Who Will Win?

So to give you some insight into my musical opinions. I present you:

MY 2021 GRAMMY PREDICTIONS (disclaimer: not all the categories as there are too many but some of them)

GENERAL CATEGORIES (AKA THE BIG 4)

Record of the year

The Nominees Are:

Black Parade- Beyoncé

Colors- Black Pumas

Rockstar- DaBaby Feat Roddy Rich

Say So- Doja Cat

Everything I Wanted- Billie Eilish

Don't Start Now- Dua Lipa

Circles- Post Malone

Savage- Megan Thee Stallion Feat Beyoncé

Who do I think will win?

I personally believe it's a battle between Everything I Wanted (the Grammys love Billie if that wasn't obvious from last years sweep she had with the main categories) and possibly Don't Start Now but for this category it could be anybody's game. So prepare for a possible snub.

Winner: Every I Wanted

Could Go To: Savage

Song of the year

The Nominees Are:

Black Parade- Beyoncé

The Box- Roddy Ricch

Cardigan- Taylor Swift

Circles- Post Malone

Don't Start Now- Dua Lipa

Everything I Wanted- Billie Eilish

I Can't Breathe- H.E.R

If the World Was Ending- JP Saxe Feat Julia Michaels

Who do I think will win?

This is a clearer competition compared to record. It's down between Don't Start Now (Dua Lipa was credited by various music journalists as the leading artist who led the revival of 1980s disco trend in 2019) and Cardigan by Taylor Swift (Cardigan when it was released it garnered 7.742 million streams and was the biggest opening-day for a female artist in 2020).

Winner: Cardigan ❌

Could Go To: Don't Start Now

WINNER: I Can't Breathe

Album of the year

The Nominees Are:

Chilombo- Jhené Aiko

Black Pumas (Deluxe Version)- Black Pumas

Everyday Life- Coldplay

Djesse Vol.3- Jacob Collier

Women in Music Pt.III- HAIM

Future Nostalgia- Dua Lipa

Hollywood's Bleeding- Post Malone

Folklore- Taylor Swift

Who do I think will win?

Disclaimer: I have not heard all the albums nominated (I apologise and I'm sorry to those I haven't heard 🙏🏻)

It's another battle between Dua Lipa and Taylor Swift. Though Future Nostalgia is a very solid album and has a numerous bops( cough Physical cough). Folklore took the whole world by surprise and if it doesn't win well Swifties are going to be extremely upset and Twitter will be a mess).

Winner: Folklore✅

Could Go To: Future Nostalgia

Best New Artist

The Nominees Are:

Ingrid Andress

Phoebe Bridgers

Noah Cyrus

Chika

D Smoke

Doja Cat

Kaytranada

Meghan Thee Stallion

Who Do I Think Will Win?

3 words: Meghan Thee Stallion. 3 letters: W.A.P

Do I need to say more. Meghan has had a great 2020. From her very successful release of Savage and the drop of her debut studio album Good News. It would be very surprising for her not to win the Best New Artist.

Winner: Meghan Thee Stallion ✅

Could Go To: Phoebe Bridgers

We now move on to the Pop Category!

POP

Best Pop Solo Performance

The Nominees Are:

Yummy- Justin Bieber

Say So- Doja Cat

Everything I Wanted- Billie Eilish

Don't Start Now- Dua Lipa

Watermelon Sugar- Harry Styles

Cardigan- Taylor Swift

Who Do I Think Will Win?

Like the scenario in Song of the Year it's between Taylor and Dua. However, I think the tables will turn and favour Dua Lipa. Other possible contenders could be Watermelon Sugar or Everything I Wanted.

Winner: Don't Start Now❌

Could Go To: Cardigan❌

WINNER: Watermelon Sugar

Best Pop Duo/ Group Performance

The Nominees Are:

Un Dia (One Day)- J Balvin, Dua Lipa, Bad Bunny and Tainy

Intentions- Justin Bieber Feat Quavo

Dynamite- BTS

Rain On Me- Lady Gaga and Ariana Grande

Exile- Taylor Swift Feat Bon Iver

Who Do I Think Will Win?

Now this is a very interesting category. It needs to mentioned that South Korean mega group BTS makes their first appearance at being nominated at the Grammys with the catchy title of Dynamite. With impressive streaming figures (7.778 streams on Spotify) it's a definitely contender. However, they'll face a tough competition with songs such as Rain On Me and Exile to consider. This is definitely one of the most anticipated awards of the night!

Winner: Dynamite❌

Could Go To: Exile❌

WINNER: Rain On Me

Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album

The Nominees Are:

Blue Umbrella – (Burt Bacharach &) Daniel Tashian

True Love: A Celebration of Cole Porter – Harry Connick Jr.

American Standard – James Taylor

Unfollow the Rules – Rufus Wainwright

Judy – Renée Zellweger

Who Do I Think Will Win?

DISCLAIMER: AGAIN this is not my strongest category. I have not listen to any albums. So this is a bit of a stab in the dark. Saying that according to GoldDerby.com the race is between Judy (Renee Zellweger) and American Standard (James Taylor). So as it's a name I recognise my pick goes for Judy and Renee Zellweger.

Winner: Judy ❌

Could Go To: American Standard ✅

Best Pop Vocal Album

The Nominees Are:

Changes – Justin Bieber

Chromatica – Lady Gaga

Future Nostalgia – Dua Lipa

Fine Line – Harry Styles

Folklore – Taylor Swift

Who Do I Think Will Win?

Last but not least we have best pop vocal album. Like I said earlier I'm still shocked that The Weeknd was completely excluded from this year's Grammys. But alas, snubs do happen. So who will take the grammy well, Folklore/Future Nostalgia might dominate again but there could be the curve ball of Harry Styles Fine Line.

Winner: Folklore❌

Could Go To: Future Nostalgia✅

And there we go, my picks for 2021 Grammy winners. Will I be right? Only time will tell. The Grammys will happen Sunday 14 at 8.00pm ET (which is 00.00AM on the 15th in the UK). Let me know in the comments what do you think about your predictions or tweet me @serenmusical on twitter and Instagram

I shall cover my Grammy 2021reactions in the next post so keep an eye out for it!
