Merry Christmas!
Okay it's still 12 days till Christmas Eve, but I don't know about you but I'm already in the holiday mood👌🏻
If you need any festive cheer (I don't blame you if you do). I have like my Halloween Post created my own recommendations/playlists to make it feel like you stepped into a Winter Wonderland.
1. Jingle Bells
First off it's the classic: Jingle Bells. It's one of the most commonly sung American songs. It was published in 1857 by James Lord Pierpont, so in 2020 it's 163 years old. This Frank Sinatra version can be found in his Christmas album (A Jolly Christmas from Frank Sinatra) in1957.
2. Last Christmas
R.I.P George Michael (he sadly died on Christmas Day in 2016) but Wham! Last Christmas was the most-played Christmas song of the 21st century in the UK before it was over taken by the next song on the list in 2015.
3. Fairytale Of New York
I don't know about you but have you paid attention to the songs lyrics? No, well there are some slurs and to some it's offensive to be played on the radio (cough BBC RADIO 1 cough) but have a listen for yourself and let me know what you think of the controversy...
4. Step Into Christmas
It wouldn't be an Elton John music video without the appearance of a feather boa and shades.
Fun Fact: it reached no.1 on the Billboard Christmas Singles Chart (who knew that was a thing) in 1973!
5. Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
Did you catch what John and Yoko were whispering at the beginning of the song? No, well for your curiosity it's Happy Christmas, Kyoko, Happy Christmas, Julian. For context, Kyoko is Yoko's daughter from American film producer Anthony Cox and Julian is the son with John's first wife Cynthia.
6. White Christmas
Fun Fact: Did you know that Crosby's version of this song has sold over 50 MILLION copies worldwide, which it makes it the best selling physical single EVER!
7. All I Want for Christmas Is You
Mariah is an extremely talented singer and she doesn't fail in this one. She has apparently earned $60 million dollars in royalties!
8. Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree
For me when I listen to this song, I immediately think of is that scene from Home Alone!
9. It's The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year
The song was written in 1963 by Edward Pola and George Wyle, but was recorded by Andy Williams for his first Christmas album (The Andy Williams Christmas Album).
10.Silent Night
Another Bing Crosby version but Crosby's vocals suit holiday/Christmas songs so well. Silent Night's origins are Austrian being composed in1818 by Franz Xaver Gruber in the small town of Oberndorf bei Salzburg.
Here's a bonus playlist for even more Christmas festiveness!
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
